  1. Patience is a virtue.

    When I give advice to parents of children with Autism in my paediatric practice, one frequently used bit of advice is to wait, and count several seconds before asking a question a second time.

    So, when a question is asked or an invitation is made, I advise them to follow their verbal statement with SILENCE, a pause, a deep breath, counting 7 to 20 seconds depending on each child. More strategies can be found on my blog at http://www.ChildrenStrategies.com
